Counterfeit Detection
Fake WS2812B chips:
- Dimple size/shape on package is different
- Color accuracy is poor (especially green)
- Runs hotter than genuine
- Max brightness is lower
- Markings can be rubbed off
Test: Run at full white for 10 minutes. Genuine WS2812B draws ~60mA. Fakes often draw less (~40-50mA) and get significantly hotter.
