How to Mount LED Strips

LED strip being installed under kitchen cabinet

Method 1: Aluminum Channel (Best Results)

Aluminum channels provide:

  • Heat dissipation (LEDs last longer)
  • Diffused light looks professional
  • Clean, finished appearance
  • UV protection for outdoor use

Installation:

  1. Measure and cut channel to length
  2. Screw or adhesive-mount channel to surface
  3. Peel and stick strip inside channel
  4. Snap on diffuser cover
  5. Connect power and test

Method 2: 3M VHB Tape (Quick)

  • Use for temporary or indoor installations
  • Clean surface with isopropyl alcohol first
  • Press firmly for 30 seconds
  • Works best on smooth, clean surfaces

Method 3: Outdoor Permanent (Roofline)

For permanent holiday lights:

  1. J-channel or L-track mounted under roofline/eave
  2. Insert pixel strip inside channel
  3. Use silicone caulk at ends/joins for waterproofing
  4. Leave 5mm expansion gap every 5m for temperature changes

Corner Techniques

  • Miter cut — cut channel at 45° for 90° corners
  • Flexible connector — use corner connectors between channel segments
  • Minimal bend radius — strip can bend to ~30mm minimum (check datasheet)
